Alpharetta native Peyton Barber had a stellar second season in the NFL.

The Milton High School graduate played in 16 games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season and started in four. In 108 rushing attempts, he scampered for 423 yards and three touchdowns.

Barber impressed the Bucs enough for the team to hang onto him. The 5-foot-11, 225 lbs back re-signed with Tampa Bay on a one-year deal for $630,000 on Tuesday.

ESPN's Field Yates was the first to report the signing and said the 23-year-old could be in the mix to start for the Bucs next season.

As a senior at Milton, Barber rushed for more than 1,700 yards and 22 touchdowns. He went on to play his college ball at Auburn. As a sophomore, he ran for 1,017 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Barber left school early for the NFL draft, but went unselected in 2016 and signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent.

His best game as a Buccaneer came this past season against the Green Bay Packers, where he rushed for 102 yards and caught four passes for 41 yards.

In a February interview with ESPN, Barber opened up about his battle with dyslexia and ADHD.

“I don’t see it as a disability — I see it as an ability,” he said. “I see it as something special and unique in many ways. Yeah, I may learn differently, but at the same time, I’m thriving."

Clearly, neither disorder has held the north Fulton County native back from succeeding in the NFL.
