The order has been placed for new playground equipment at Lilburn City Park.

The city approved the new play structures in February and announced the order had been placed on Aug. 9. This was in response to a 2015 citizen survey showing that residents wanted an upgrade to the playground, including an area for toddlers to play, according to a city release.

The playground will have softer playing surfaces, improved wheelchair accessibility and separate play areas for younger and older children, according to the city. The toddler area will have a covering in order to provide shade during hot days.

The park’s tennis courts closed May 1 and will become parking lots, according to the city. A closure date for playground construction has not yet been announced.

The park improvements are being funded by the 2017-2023 SPLOST and will cost $162,000.
