Acworth police warn that there’s a new scam in town.

They said scammers are calling residents and asking for donations for the Acworth Police Department.

The agency, which according to its 2015 annual report had a total budget that year of $4,673,261, said it is not seeking donations over the phone.

The department posted a cautionary note on its Facebook about the new scam Friday.

In it, the department said for anyone with questions to call Acworth police at 770-974-1232.
