Clearing began a number of weeks ago on a four-acre development in southeast Decatur at the corner of South Columbia Drive and Katie Drive that’s now being called “Hargrove.” According to Eric Price, a division president for developers David Weekley Homes, the initial homeowners should close in December.

Decatur’s commission approved zoning changes for the site in August 2016, when the developer was the Atlanta-based Civitas Housing Group. Civitas sold to the Houston-based Weekley (with a regional office in Sandy Springs) in January 2017.

“The big holdup was with DeKalb water and sewer,” Price said. “But we got our inspection and a clean bill of health. We didn’t have to do anything like put in a holding tank.”

The next step is developing infrastructure and laying roads with construction beginning in late June/early July.

Hargrove will include 59 single-family homes and attached townhomes. The three-story townhomes will start in the $400s and the two- and three-story single-family homes will be priced in the $500s. Sales are expected to commence around the same time construction begins.

Price said there was “no way to predict [the number of] school-aged children” the development will produce.

During a recent interview City Schools Decatur Superintendent David Dude said he didn’t know much about this development and that the 59 homes sounds “like a lot.”
