There will soon be a new resource for sports gear and outdoor recreation supplies in Buford.

Academy Sports and Outdoors is planning on opening a new location at the intersection of Ga. 20 and Plunkett Road. The store will not be far from Interstate 985 and the Mall of Georgia.

“Academy Sports + Outdoors and Buford are a perfect match, and we cannot wait to open this new, convenient location,” said Sam Johnson, the company’s executive vice president of retail operations, in a statement. “Whether you’re heading to Lake Lanier for a fishing trip, gearing up for your next hunt, or getting ready for the next sports season, Academy has all the products you need for less.”

The new store will employ about 60 people, according to a release. Those interested in jobs at Academy can apply at academy.com/careers.

The Texas-based sporting goods company revealed plans for the Buford store in the announcement of four new locations across the South and Southwest; three other stores are planned for North Carolina, Oklahoma and Texas.
