Natalee Holloway's mother went to the Peruvian prison where the man suspected in her daughter's disappearance is being held and spoke to him for about five minutes, according to a Peruvian television news program.
Beth Holloway spoke to Joran van der Sloot at the Castro Castro prison until van der Sloot ended the meeting, the "24 Horas" program reported.
Gyofred Munoz Care, a reporter with 24 Horas, told NBC News that "when Beth asked direct questions about the crime, he refused to answer without having his lawyer present."
Beth Holloway is in Peru with a Dutch documentary maker, Peter de Vries.
De Vries wrote on his official website that his film crew did not break any prison rules and no member of his crew was detained. When the documentary is released, de Vries wrote, it will explain what they were doing in Peru and what they found.
Van der Sloot is charged with murder in the death of Peruvian student Stephany Flores, who was found in May in a hotel room registered to him. He also is charged with extortion in Alabama for allegedly trying to extort more than $250,000 from Holloway's family in exchange for disclosing the location of her body. However, the place he indicated as Holloway's burial site turned out to be false.
Natalee Holloway was last seen alive leaving an Aruba nightclub on May 30, 2005, with van der Sloot and two other men. She was visiting the island on a graduation trip with about 100 classmates from Mountain Brook High School near Birmingham.
In a recent interview with a Dutch TV station, van der Sloot expressed remorse for telling so many stories about Natalee Holloway's disappearance but denied culpability in the case, CNN.com reported.
