It’s not set to open until late summer of 2018, but Forsyth County’s planned sixth high school now has a name.

The Forsyth County Board of Education voted to name the planned nearly 120-acre campus between Fowler and Mullinax roads for the late Dr. Leila Denmark, one of the first woman pediatricians in Georgia. The new Denmark High will go up adjacent to where she once operated her practice. Denmark retired after working as a physician until the age of 103 and died in 2012 at 114-at the time the fifth-oldest known living person in the world.

Denmark beat out two other names suggested by a district committee during two weeks of popular voting.

Construction of school will be funded by a 2014 bond referendum.
