The Milton Police Department is asking residents and businesses with security cameras to voluntarily register them as part of Operation S.C.R.A.M. (Security Camera Registry and Mapping) so they can potentially help police solve crimes.

“What we’re asking Milton residents to do is, ‘Help us help you’,” said Milton Police Chief Rich Austin. “The hope is that the knowledge of the location of security cameras around Milton, combined with other evidence, could lead to solving even more crimes.”

In the event of a crime nearby, police would contact registered camera owners to determine if the devices might have captured images helpful to investigators.

The release of camera video to police would be voluntary. The program is not intended for active surveillance, and police said they would not have direct access to cameras.

Milton is the first North Fulton community to implement voluntary security camera registration. Police said Marietta, Acworth, Brookhaven and Kennesaw have had success with similar programs. Information: https://bit.ly/32sCMb7
