A new restaurant will open this week on the site of a 100-year-old historic Marietta home that was demolished earlier this year.

McAlister’s Deli will open at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 at 789 Church Street. As readers recall, the site was home to Fowler House, which was demolished in the spring by  property owner BAMM Realty.

The company built a commercial building on the site that will house McAlister's Deli and The Poke Company, Michael Sunshine of BAMM Realty previously told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Built in 1926, the home was the Fowler family’s private residence until it was converted into office space in the 1960s.

Although the home’s original facade remained, it was used as office space by Peoples Financial, the company started by the Fowlers.

McAlister’s Deli is a fast-casual eatery that serves handmade sandwiches, fresh salads, stuffed spuds and its Famous Sweet Tea.

“We are excited to bring McAlister’s handcrafted sandwiches, family-friendly atmosphere, and genuine hospitality to Marietta,” said Asif Rajabali, owner of the McAlister’s Deli in Marietta. “McAlister’s Deli has a strong fan base in Greater Atlanta, and we look forward to building long-lasting relationships with the Marietta community.”
