If you take the MARTA bus to or from Decatur, your commute may be changing before the end of the year.
MARTA is considering altering three bus routes around the city and the nearby DeKalb County neighborhoods, and is inviting the public to weigh in on the changes.
The agency may change Route 19 (Clairmont Road), Route 123 (Church Street/North DeKalb Mall) and Route 823 (Belvedere). Some portions of the routes are being discontinued or replaced by other lines. Among the biggest proposed changes would extend Route 19 down Commerce Drive and W. Howard Avenue to the East Lake MARTA station.
MARTA representatives will host a “community exchange” and public hearing on the modifications next Monday, Sept. 16 at the local branch of the DeKalb County Public Library, located at 215 Sycamore St. in Decatur. The community exchange is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the public hearing beginning at 7 p.m.
The agency said it proposed the route changes based on its own service analysis and feedback from customers. The modifications, if accepted by the MARTA Board of Directors, would go into effect on Dec. 7.
