Now THAT is a big fish.
After catching a 17.5 pound flathead catfish at Lake Lanier last week, Chris Gibbs and his 10-year-old son Austin did what they say anyone would've done. They ate it.
"It was a big fish, so we'll be eating on it for a long time," Gibbs said Friday.
The fish was the biggest the Hall County duo has ever caught by several pounds. And it's the biggest one caught at Lanier, Gibbs said.
But it won't make the records book, he said. That's because it was caught with a milk jug, not a rod and reel.
Gibbs said he learned "jugging" from his grandfather, and now he's teaching it to his children. Basically, empty gallon containers, along with fishing line and hooks, are placed in the water. When the fish are biting, the jugs start moving, Gibbs said.
Record or not, Gibbs said he and Austin have earned bragging rights.
"We caught the biggest fish," Gibbs said.
