Poole, his girlfriend and another couple were at a Peachtree Corners restaurant on June 18, 2016 when Poole’s girlfriend and the other man got into an argument about food that was on the table. The other couple left, while Poole and his girlfriend walked outside after them, the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office said. Poole and his girlfriend then got into an argument that became physical, the DA’s office said.

A man inside the restaurant saw Poole and the woman fighting and went outside in an attempt to separate them. When the man pushed Poole away from the woman, Poole and the man started arguing. Poole then took out a gun and shot the man in the head, the DA’s office said. The man survived but sustained serious injuries, including a traumatic brain injury.

Poole and his girlfriend fled to Ohio after the shooting and were arrested about a month later, the DA’s office said. Both denied any involvement in the shooting. The couple they went to the restaurant with told police they saw Poole and his girlfriend arguing and saw the victim intervene.

In addition to the traumatic brain injury, the victim suffered memory loss and hearing loss because of the shooting. He was unable to remember the night of the shooting because of his injuries, the DA’s office said.

Poole was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
