It's been three years since Lilburn hairdresser Leslie Marva Adams disappeared, and her family still aches for answers.
Her brother, Patrick Adams, said his thoughts return to his missing sister "every single day."
Patrick Adams, who lives in the family's hometown of Williamsport, Pa., said: "It gets frustrating, but I'm trying to be a bigger man and trying to hold things down for my niece and nephew and support the whole family the best I can."
Leslie Marva Adams was a 40-year-old single mother when she was reported missing on Oct. 24, 2005, after she failed to show up for a sister's birthday party. Police found a .45-caliber shell casing and blood in her apartment, and her car parked outside.
Adams' son and daughter, ages 16 and 19, live with their grandmother in Williamsport now, Patrick Adams said.
"She's not a throwaway person," said cousin Rodney Adams, who lives in Doraville. "She has a family that loves and misses her a lot."
Five days before she vanished, Adams had sought a temporary restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, saying she feared for her life.
The man, Billy Joe Cook, denied having anything to do with the disappearance. Investigators never named him as a suspect.
He called Adams twice the night she disappeared.
Cook, 40, was released from prison in December 2007. He did not return calls seeking comment on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Gwinnett County police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said the missing persons case is still open.
