Early voting for in Atlanta's crowded District 3 race began Monday. Voters will choose from the nine candidates vying to fill the seat vacated when Ivory Lee Young Jr. died last year.
The crowded races include: Shalise Steele-Young, wife of late councilman Ivory Lee Young Jr., former Atlanta school board member Byron Amos and former Georgia Piedmont Technical College president Jabari Simama.
Candidates will serve over the district, which includes neighborhoods English Avenue and Vine City. The area is undergoing redevelopment which includes the Atlanta Beltline Westside expansion.

Voters will also choose from the following candidates: Antonio Brown, Ricky Brown, Matthew Charles Cardinale, Greg Clay, Erika Estrada, Mesha Mainor.
The winner will fill the remainder of Young’s term through 2021.
Early voting will take place until March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fulton County Government Center located at 130 Peachtree Street in Atlanta. There will be no weekend early voting.
The special election will be held March 19. If necessary, a runoff will be held April 16.
