The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted at its Nov. 7 regular meeting to purchase three acres of land on Jodeco Road for a new fire station to be built in the near future.

The cost is $200,000 for the site between Meridian Drive and Summer Leigh Drive, just west of Hudson Bridge Road. About a year ago county officials determined that Fire Station 8 on Flippen Road, which had been in operation for 30 or more years, was in disrepair and deemed unsafe.

Personnel were relocated to two nearby stations while temporary facilities were constructed at that location, but for the long term officials decided it is not practical to rebuild on the Flippen Road property because of construction concerns as well as traffic with a retail development across the street and a busy intersection a few hundred yards away.
