A 15-year-old autistic boy who went missing Tuesday while jet-skiing on Lake Lanier with his father was found safe early Wednesday.

Forsyth County Fire Capt. Jason Shivers told WSB Radio's Mark Alewine that father and son "had been out on an afternoon personal watercraft trip together on the lake, something very common that they do together."

But they got separated and the teen, who has a communication disorder, was reported missing about 7:30 p.m. Department of Natural Resources officers found him floating on his jet ski near Aqualand Marina around 12:45 a.m.

The search was carried out by Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies, DNR officers and an Atlanta Police helicopter with night imaging capabilities, WSB Radio reported.

Authorities are not releasing the boy's name.
