Kennesaw State University will offer a new degree program for students looking to start a career in the healthcare industry.

The Board of Regents has approved KSU's request to offer a
Bachelor of Science in Integrated Health Science for its WellStar College of Health and Human Services, the school said in a news release. KSU will begin offering the degree in the 2020-21 school year.

The program will use existing courses from the WellStar College, and will fall under the university's Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education.

Kennesaw State said the major will offer a curriculum that provides students with a strong knowledge of disease prevention and health and oversight and delivery of health services. Majoring in Integrating Health Sciences will allow students to “take on numerous responsibilities as healthcare professionals,” KSU added.

KSU President Dr. Pamela Whitten said the world has been altered by the COVID-19 pandemic, and “health professionals must address the chronic issues facing their communities today.”

“As a leader in healthcare education, Kennesaw State is prepared to teach and develop this next generation of health professionals to fulfill the critical hire needs in the state of Georgia and the region,” she said.

Over the next six years, Kennesaw State said the healthcare industry is expected to grow by 18% and healthcare services and its related careers will account for 16 to 30 of the fastest-growing jobs around the country.

Kandice Porter, chair of KSU’s Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education, said the program will offer students more courses in their areas of interest and allows them to “tailor the program to their healthcare career goals.”
