After a series of public workshops and citizens advisory committee meetings going back to last autumn, Johns Creek has released a draft version of its updated comprehensive plan and will seek public comment on the document through June and July.

The update to the 2008 plan aims to preserve residential neighborhoods and manage future development, city officials say.

It also seeks to create a sustainable transportation network with streets and paths that connect neighborhoods to schools, parks, shopping and institutions; expand the city’s economic base and attract high-tech industries; provide superior recreational and cultural activities; and develop tools to implement the goals, including a Unified Development Code with architectural and site design standards.

The city expects to hold a public hearing on the draft later this summer before submitting it to the Atlanta Regional Commission for an expected 90-day review. A final draft will be issued this fall for public review before going to the mayor and City Council for approval.
