The Johns Creek City Council has approved releasing $400,000 for immediate repairs to heavily damaged, stormwater-handling components of the Long Indian Creek basin.
The city hired Lowe Engineers to assess Long Indian Creek “structures” – catch basins, curbs and gutters – and “conveyances,” such as pipes, ditches and swales, according to a staff report to the council.
That basin was selected “because it has some of the city’s oldest stormwater infrastructure and was anticipated to have some of the heaviest damaged structures,” staff said.
While only a small percentage of city-owned structures and conveyances require immediate attention due to damage or siltation, those that do will cost an estimated $650,000 to fix, staff said. That amount will exhaust monies presently allocated, and staff requested an additional $400,000 from the Infrastructure Maintenance Accrual Fund.
One of six stormwater basins in Johns Creek, Long Indian Creek runs along the northwest edge of the city, parallel to Kimball Bridge, Jones Bridge and Old Alabama roads.
