The Johns Creek City Council has approved an intergovernmental agreement with Gwinnett County covering pedestrian improvements for the proposed widening of the State Bridge Road bridges over the Chattahoochee River.
In return for having Johns Creek lead the design and construction of the pedestrian work, Gwinnett will contribute 50 percent toward the design and construction costs, estimated at $1.5 million, according to an agenda report to the council from City Manager Warren Hutmacher.
The eastbound and westbound bridges carry traffic of State Bridge on Johns Creek’s side of the river, and Pleasant Hill Road on the Gwinnett side. The widening is to be funded in part by Johns Creek TSPLOST funds and by grants of $1.5 million apiece from the State Road and Toll Authority to the city and Gwinnett.
“The State Bridge Road/Pleasant Hill Road corridor has a number of residences and businesses with a high number of pedestrians walking to and work,” Hutmacher said. “This project will ensure a safe crossing for pedestrians in both directions.”
