A Johns Creek police officer flipped his patrol car several times Thursday night speeding to an emergency in rainy conditions, authorities said.

Officer James Cool had to be rescued from the overturned car, but suffered only non-life-threatening injuries,

Just after 8 p.m., Cool was traveling west on Old Alabama Highway with his sirens and lights going en route to a shooting report.

Cool’s patrol car hit standing water just west of the entrance to the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve, Johns Creek spokesman Bill Doughty said.

“He lost control, flipped several times and skidded into a creek,” Doughty said.

Emergency crews were on the scene and quickly rescued the trapped officer, officials said.

The officer was taken to Emory Johns Creek Hospital, Doughty said.
