The Johns Creek City Council has approved contracts exceeding $1.2 million for improvements to Barnwell Road in the vicinity of Barnwell Elementary School.

Triscapes Inc., a general contractor, received a $1.1 construction contract to build a left-turn lane at Barnwell Elementary, flatten a sharp curve where Barnwell turns into Jones Bridge Road, and extend pedestrian facilities from an existing trail at Redcoat Way to the school, where a traffic signal allows walkers to cross the road.

Triscape’s bid was the lowest of eight received for the work, staff said in a report to the council.

Lowe Engineers submitted the lowest of three quotes for construction/engineering/inspection services and was given the $105,340 task order.

A third improvement proposed for Barnwell, a roundabout at Rivermont Parkway, is in engineering, and the right-of-way phase is to start this spring. “The next action anticipated for council … will be consideration of budgeting funds for construction as part of the FY 2021 Budget,” staff said.
