The Johns Creek City Council has awarded a $2.1 million construction contract to PRO Building Systems to create a four-acre pocket park on Morton Road.

According to the Morton Road Park concept plan approved by the council in June, 2017, the park, on Morton east of State Bridge Road, will have rubber-surfaced earth mounds, an open play area and playground, a pavilion, picnic shelters, a multi-use path and half-court basketball.

Site grading is to begin in mid-February, with a groundbreaking ceremony tentatively set for the end of the month, a target completion date of Oct. 31, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony soon afterward, staff said. The project will be paid for out of a $40 million parks bond issue approved by Johns Creek residents in November, 2016.

“Numerous parks bonds enhancement including new playground equipment, bathroom renovations, parking lot resurfacing and turf fields have been put in place since 2016; however, this is the first brand-new park that would move to the construction phase for residents of Johns Creek,” staff said.
