Joan Swaney, the Clarkston city councilwoman indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury for allegedly embezzling more than $50,000 from the Clarkston Community Center, has resigned.

In her Oct. 22 letter, Swaney says she doesn’t want pending legal matters to distract from city business and noted the indictment doesn’t involve city finances.

Swaney is set to be arraigned Friday in U.S. District Court.
