Q: Does the state of Georgia audit or exercise any oversight into the affairs of the University System Athletic Associations?
— Mitchell L. Easter, Cumming
A: As a cooperative organization of the Board of Regents/University System of Georgia, any athletic association affiliated with a university system institution must comply with the regents’ rules for cooperative organizations, said University System of Georgia spokesman John Millsaps III. This includes adhering to the regents’ ethics and conflict of interest policies. He said the board of regents does not conduct audits of cooperative organizations, but these organizations, by law, must conduct internal audits.
