Another hotel will be coming to Acworth.
In a rare move, the aldermen split 4-1 recently on approval of the conceptual site plan for a five-story, 88-room hotel at 6045 Lake Acworth Drive.
Opposed was Alderman Tim Richardson since he said the hotel brand is not known.
In favor were Aldermen Tim Houston, Butch Price, Brett North and Gene Pugliese.
Naren Patel of North Georgia Hotel Developers said the brand considerations would include Holiday Inn and Marriott with nightly room rates of $89 to $129.
Extended stay could not be included unless the aldermen approve a special land use permit, Acworth Assistant City Manager Brandon Douglas told the aldermen.
Acworth Community Development Director Christine Dobbs also told them this site was approved for a hotel - with stipulations not tied to a particular brand - in 2008, but a hotel was not built.
City support is needed to have a brand buy into the applicant’s hotel development, she added.
Among the hotels in Acworth are Best Western, EconoLodge, Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott, Quality Inn and Super 8, according to AcworthTourism.org.
