Henry County Probate Court will be adding an associate judge to its ranks after getting approval Nov. 3 from the Board of Commissioners.

Probate Judge Kelley Powell, who has been on the job 10 years, told the board that hers was the only court in the county with only one judge, requiring her to be on call at all times.

State law allows for the creation of this position with consent of the governing body. Henry County’s size requires that a probate judge be an attorney authorized to practice in Georgia for seven years, and Powell’s staff attorney reached that milestone this week to become eligible for the post.
