The Henry County Board of Commissioners recently approved a transfer of $500,000 from the general fund to the Henry County Library System. The move came at a special called joint meeting with the Library Board.
This is in addition to the $1.8 million from the county in the FY2017 budget, an amount library officials said recently was about $1 million below what the system needed to be fully functional. The county’s five libraries have been open 32 hours per week, Monday through Thursday for the past six years with the exception of the main branch in McDonough that is open a few hours every Sunday afternoon.
Nearly two months ago the Stockbridge City Council approved a $10,080 allocation to allow the Cochran Library in Stockbridge to open Saturday afternoons for the remainder of 2016.
