The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted at its Jan. 7 regular meeting to approve a resolution in support of local government control when it comes to regulating residential building design standards.

The action is in response to House Bill 302, which came out of last year’s session of the Georgia General Assembly and would prohibit local governments from enacting design standards for single-family or multi-family residential structures. The resolution will be sent to the county’s legislative delegation to show the commissioners’ support of “home rule,” the term commonly used for local control, rather than having building standards dictated at the state or elsewhere outside the county.
