A Gwinnett County teacher has been "reassigned" following a human resources investigation into inappropriate comments she recently made toward a group of students, school officials said Tuesday.
The now-former Lanier Middle School teacher, whose identity has not been released by the school system, was placed under investigation last week. According to a letter from Principal Todd Hamilton, she allegedly raised her voice at students before leading "a class discussion about the incident [and] making inappropriate comments."
The exact nature of the comments has not been discussed by school officials, but the Gwinnett Daily Post reported that the teacher "called black students disrespectful for leaving early."
Gwinnett County Public Schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach said Tuesday that the investigation into the teacher was complete and "she is not returning to the school."
"She is still an employee of Gwinnett County Public Schools and will be reassigned to another position," Roach wrote in an email.
The teacher was taken "out of the classroom" when the investigation began, officials previously said.
"Respect is one of our key mottos here at Lanier Middle," Hamilton wrote in his letter to parents last week. "And, just as we expect students to respect teachers, we expect our staff members to respect students."
Lanier Middle School is on Suwanee Dam Road in Sugar Hill.
