Gwinnett County will turn an historic house into an educational exhibit at its Environmental and Heritage Center in Buford.

County commissioners Tuesday agreed to accept ownership of the Chesser-Williams House and awarded a $319,130 contract to Peachtree Construction Services to move it from Braselton Highway. Gwinnett will use a sales tax fund for construction projects to cover most of the cost. The Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center Foundation pitched in $25,000.

The Chesser-Williams House, built in the mid-1800s, is one of the county’s oldest. The contractor will move it in three sections over nine months.
