A Lawrenceville country club that was Gwinnett County’s first will be closed and sold.

Northwood Country Club will cease operations after 60 years, according to a spokeswoman for ClubCorp, the company that owns Northwood. The closure was a “business decision,” spokeswoman Patty Jerde said.

A specific date for the closure was not provided. ClubCorp does not generally comment on  property sales until they are complete, the spokeswoman said.

Northwood provides members with amenities including golf, fitness facilities and club events. It sits on 225 acres about three miles from Gwinnett Place Mall and two miles off of I-85.

Northwood members have the option to transfer their memberships to other metro Atlanta ClubCorp properties. The company manages clubs including the Country Club of the South in Johns Creek, Bear’s Best in Suwanee and the Buckhead Club in Atlanta.
