A Gwinnett County man claimed SNAP benefits from the Georgia Department of Human Services while he owned and operated two trucking companies and his wife worked as a doctor and medical school professor, the district attorney’s office said this week.

Oniel Clarke, 42, was convicted of five counts of fraud in obtaining public assistance, food stamps or Medicaid. The verdict was returned on April 11 after a three-day trial.
Clarke filed to receive food stamps for him, his wife and his three children from the Georgia Department of Family Services. He did not report his income or his wife’s to the department.
His wife was unaware of the fraud and did not participate in the scheme, according to Assistant District Attorney Anthony Volkodav, who prosecuted Clarke.
Clarke was sentenced to five years in prison.
