Georgia is giving Johns Creek and Gwinnett County some cash to expand roads.
The State Road and Tollway Authority awarded $1.5 million each to Johns Creek and Gwinnett County for the State Bridge Road widening project. The money is coming from the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank grant.
For Gwinnett, the project will expand the roadway from four to six lanes from Medlock Bridge Road in Johns Creek to McClure Bridge Road in Duluth.
Johns Creek will handle the State Bridge Road widening from Medlock Bridge Road to the Chattahoochee River, where the road’s name changes to Pleasant Hill Road. Gwinnett County will handle the Pleasant Hill Road portion between the river and McClure Bridge Road.
Gwinnett County is currently buying right-of-way to widen Pleasant Hill Road to six lanes on the east side of the Chattahoochee River.
A Johns Creek spokesperson didn’t say when the project would start, but it was approved by Fulton voters in 2016.
