It’s time for fried food, prized livestock and exciting rides. The Gwinnett County Fair is back.

The annual event kicks off on Sept. 13 and lasts through Sept. 23, with a variety of shows, competitions and attractions at the fairgrounds on 2405 Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville.

Admission is $10 for adults (age 12 through 64), $5 for youth (age 6 through 11) and seniors (over 65) and free or kids age 5 and under. There's free admission on Sept. 13 in honor of the fair's opening day. If you buy tickets online before Sept. 13, you can save up to 50 percent of the cost.

Pay for rides by buying packs of ride tickets, or by paying a flat rate for unlimited rides. The unlimited ride passes cost $20 Mondays through Thursdays, and $25 on Saturdays and Sundays. You can get a ride pass for $18 if you bring a non-perishable food item to donate on Sept. 13 and Sept. 17 through 20.

Carnival hours are 5 to 11 p.m. on weekdays, 11 a.m. to midnight on Saturdays, and 1 to 10 p.m. on Sundays. Exhibit halls are open from 5 to 10 p.m. on weekdays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays, and 1 to 9 p.m. on Sundays.

Georgia finished No. 7 in community and environment. The state was No. 16 in work environment, finishing low in the metric of "income growth."
