One of the highest-ranking members of the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office has been named to the Georgia Board of Corrections.

Chief Deputy Luis Solis, Jr. was named to the state board by Gov. Brian Kemp this week. Solis oversees operations in the sheriff’s office.

The Board of Corrections is made up of 19 members who serve five-year terms. Members are all appointed by the governor and approved by the state senate. The board determines rules and policies for both corrections employees and state prison inmates.

Solis, 58, is a military veteran with a long career in law enforcement. He is a former U.S. Army Ranger and served 20 years in the Army before retiring. He also served in the Braselton Police Department for 11 years, reaching the position of assistant police chief, before joining the sheriff’s office two years ago.
