A $2,500 grant from the North Georgia Community Foundation will help the Forsyth County Public Library expand a program to preserve the oral memories of local residents.
“Forsyth Remembers” was launched last summer with “Lunar Landing Memories” about the Apollo 11 moon landing of July 1969.
“We started small with the idea of a local oral history project,” said Joan Dudzinski, Cumming Library information services supervisor. “We used very basic equipment to capture the first interview recordings, but we realized that new skills and equipment would be necessary to create an archive that will stand the test of time.”
Each of the four Forsyth County library branches are now equipped to conduct and record interviews. Information: https://bit.ly/35uIM4h
The 2020 project, starting Monday, Jan. 6, is “Lake Lanier Memories.” Residents can share memories of the construction of Buford Dam, the flooding of Lake Lanier, and other stories of fishing, boating and local folklore. Interviews can be scheduled at any Forsyth library or by calling 770-781-9840.
