A Cobb County grand jury has indicted a man accused of killing a mother inside her home, shooting her teenage son and leading police on high-speed chase before crashing his pickup truck.

The grand jury indicted Juan Antonio Gonzalez on one count each of malice murder, burglary in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and two counts each of felony murder and aggravated assault, Cobb County Superior Court records show.

Gonzalez, 32, was arrested following the Dec. 21 shooting death of 38-year-old Oralia Melo Meza. Her 16-year-old son was also shot and suffered a non-life-threatening wound to the arm.

Cobb police were dispatched to a call of an armed person at the home in the 200 block of Spring Valley Road. The first responding officer arrived to find Gonzalez trying to leave the scene in his 2010 Dodge Ram truck. Cobb police previously said Gonzalez “fired several gunshots” towards the cop, hitting the patrol car.

Cobb police said Gonzalez led officers on a six-mile chase that ended when he crashed his truck on South Cobb Drive near Highlands Parkway. According to an arrest warrant, Gonzalez reached speeds exceeding 100 mph during the pursuit.

Meza’s body was found when officers entered her home on Spring Valley Road. The teenager was also found inside the home, and he was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Police did not know the relationship between Gonzalez and Meza.

Gonzalez was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.

Bert Cohen, an attorney who is representing Gonzalez, declined to comment on the indictment.
