Grant Waldrop, a career engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation, has been named the new district engineer for GDOT District 6. The district takes in 17 counties of northwest Georgia outside Atlanta but includes the metro counties of Cherokee, Bartow and Paulding.
Waldrop, a former assistant district engineer, takes the place of DeWayne Comer, who recently retired, GDOT said. He will head the district’s more-than 300 employees and oversee its programs, projects and activities, working with local and state lawmakers, chambers of commerce, business leaders and the public. He also will work with GDOT’s counterparts in the states adjoining District 6 — Alabama and Tennessee.
Waldrop has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Georgia Tech and began his career with GDOT in 2004. He and his wife Kimberly and their three children live in Temple.
District 6 is headquartered in Cartersville, has area offices in Buchanan, Rome and Dalton, and contains 2,079 bridges, 1,900 miles of state highways and 160 miles of interstates.
