Of the estimated 3 million Americans who graduated high school this year, 51 from Fulton County have been named National Merit Scholars.
They represent “less than one percent of high school seniors across the country,” the school district said this month.
“We are extremely proud of our Fulton students who have achieved excellence and are being recognized,” said Fulton’s Chief Academic Officer Cliff Jones.

Fulton’s winners fall into three categories:
• Those whose scholarships are funded by 160 corporations after doing well on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test
•Students selected by a committee and get a $2,500 scholarship to any accredited U.S. school of their choice
• Graduates who get between $500 and $2,000 annually from the institutions they attend for up to four years of undergraduate studies
