The National Cancer Institute estimates that 87,110 people will be diagnosed this year with having melanoma – the most aggressive type of skin cancer.

To detect the cancer and combat it early, doctors encourage folks to get screened.

Northside Hospital’s Cancer Institute is doing its part in the fight against cancer by offering free screenings on May 18 at its hospital in Sandy Springs. The screenings are available from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 1000 Johnson Ferry Road NE.

Medical professionals will assess skin and provide feedback to patients in a private setting. It is recommended that participants wear shorts and a T-shirt. Participants must be 18 or older.

Appointments are required and can be made by calling 404-531-4444.

Northside will provide similar services at its hospitals in Alpharetta and Cumming later this summer.
