A captain with the Fulton County Schools Police Department took the oath of office this week as its new chief.

Mark Sulborski will lead a force of more than 66 certified police officers and administrative staffers keeping watch over in excess of 100 schools and auxiliary buildings. He was sworn in during a school board meeting.

School district officials said Sulborski is a 21-year veteran of law enforcement, with 14 of those in the Fulton schools agency. In Fulton, he’s held a variety of jobs including SWAT commander and departmental training officer. He replaces Melvin Dean, who resigned in September.
