Fugitive arrested in 15-year-old girl's murder
A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the killing of a 15-year-old DeKalb County girl in September.
Michael Smith is charged with murder in the shooting death of Shayla Jackson. Authorities say Smith stole a shotgun from a home in the Klondike Road area on Sept. 23 and later shot Jackson in the stomach. She died of her injuries.
Smith was caught Tuesday by the DeKalb County Sheriff's fugitive squad. Following a foot chase, Smith was arrested at Glenwood Road and I-285.
He's being held in the DeKalb County Jail on charges of murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
