Forsyth County commissioners have given final approval to the county’s 2018 fiscal year budget. Approval came recently on a 5-0 vote.The general fund budget covering county operations comes in at approximately $127.9 million, up about 8.5 percent from this year’s almost $118 million.

The budget plan incorporates some $1.73 million in general fund capital expenditures for such things as computer, HVAC and vehicle replacement. Various new general fund budget items amount to some $5.3 million. Among those is the setting aside of some $2.20 million for 5 percent merit/COLA salary increases for general county staff and around $208,000 for library staff.

County officials said the overall budget incorporating 21 different funds reaches just over 348 million for 2018. An unchanged millage rate of 8.036 funds three of the budget funds, including the general fund.
