Former Atlanta Hawks player Mike "Stinger" Glenn is giving DeKalb County residents a look at his personal collection of artifacts related to African-American history.

Glenn, currently an analyst on the Hawks pregame show “Hawks Live,” is installing an exhibit at the Decatur Library from Saturday, Jan. 4 to Wednesday, Jan. 22.

He has collected thousands of books, newspapers and magazines that document African-American history and culture, the DeKalb County Public Library system said in a statement. The exhibit, called “Once He Learns How to Read: A Legacy of Literacy,” includes slave narratives, books and newspapers from the 1700s, including the first printed account of the Battle of Bunker Hill.

Glenn was in the NBA for 10 seasons, playing for the Buffalo Braves, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks and the Hawks.

The DeKalb Library Foundation, city of Decatur and Decatur Education Foundation are funding the exhibit.

An opening reception is scheduled for Jan. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the library, which is located at 215 Sycamore Street in Decatur.
