Former deputy gets 20 years for trying to have sex with 7-year-old

A former Bibb County deputy was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison for attempting to enticing a minor to have sex with him.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Gregory Todd Bowden, of Byron, attempted in February 2009 to engage in three-way sex with an undercover FBI agent and her fictional 7-year-old daughter.

Bowden, 44, met the agent in October 2008 on an Internet chat site. Bowden is a frequenter of Internet chat sites, often participating in fantasy role playing involving incest and child sex acts, according to prosecutors.

The agent told Bowden she was willing to allow him to have sex with her daughter. After e-mail, phone and chat exchanges, Bowden left his Byron home to meet the woman and her daughter in Sandy Springs, only to be arrested.

An agent searched his computer and found an unidentified amount of child pornography and evidence of Bowden's interest in incest and sex with minors. Bowden was not charged with possession of child pornography, officials said.

In addition to the 20-year sentence in federal prison, Bowden will be monitored five years after his release.

The case was prosecuted by assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert McBurney and Corey Steinberg.
