Former Cobb County Chairman Tim Lee told Channel 11 news that he is focused on beating cancer after his diagnosis last year.

Lee took over as chairman in 2010 and remained in the position until he was voted out in 2016. He is best known for negotiating the public-financing deal for SunTrust Park that brought the Atlanta Braves to Cobb County.

Lee, who could not be reached for comment, told the Marietta Daily Journal in April that he had undergone surgery for esophageal cancer, but afterward it was found to have spread to his lymph system and he was being monitored.

Recently, he told Channel 11 that he is fighting the disease but “it could be something that takes me real quick,” adding: “It’s in God’s hands.”

In 2017, following his electoral defeat, Lee took a job as the director of economic development in Habersham County.
