Phase one of the renovated Trinity Walk — formerly Gateway Manor — apartments is nearly finished, with residents scheduled to move into the 69 units beginning late April and early May. Construction on phase two begins in May, and by May or June 2017, the entire 121-unit development should finish.

Trinity is the Decatur Housing Authority’s latest redevelopment of the city’s longtime public housing. Beginning in 2009 the DHA demolished the-circa 1941 Allen Wilson Terrace and replaced it with 191 units.

DHA’s next project after Trinity is the circa-1961 1111 Oakview Road apartments, which will be torn down to make way for 34 town-home style units beginning sometime next year.

Redevelopment of the 1960s-era Swanton Heights will follow Oakview.

“There are a fair number of housing authorities [nation-wide] going through revitalizations,” said DHA Executive Director Douglas Faust. “The difference with us, most authorities partner with developers. We don’t do that. We have a staff of 32 and we do the development, we arrange financing and arrange for tax credits.”
