A Friday night fire has temporarily closed a nationally acclaimed new-age barbecue restaurant in Cobb County.

Heirloom Market BBQ, 2243 Akers Mill Road SE, posted on social media that its smoker area lit up after the eatery had closed.

Critics have raved about Heirloom Market, opened in 2010, for it's combination of Korean barbecue and smoky Southern American stylings. Days before the fire, the folks in our dining section sang the praises of the restaurant's tacos in the AJC Spring Dining Guide.

Heirloom Market said on Facebook firefighters stopped the flames from spreading to the rest of the building.

“They basically contained it to the smokehouse, which has to be completely repaired. Everything looks fine from the outside. It's actually the area which no one really sees, which is the smokehouse, but everything else is OK,” chef and co-owner Cody Taylor told Channel 2 Action News.

He said people in a nearby apartment called 911. It appears, Taylor said, that the fire started outside the ovens.

Taylor told Channel 2 that he plans on having a trailer in front of the restaurant on Wednesday offering non-smoked items like fried chicken.
