The U.S. Department of Justice is accepting public comments in response to the federal Environmental Protection Agency’s consent decree mandating sewer upgrades in DeKalb County.
Residents can send an email or mail comments to P.O. Box 7611, U.S. Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. 20044-7611. All comments must include DeKalb's case number, Civil Action No. 1:10cv4039-WSD, according to a federal notice published Monday.
Last week, the EPA issued a consent decree mandating $700 million in sewer improvements after DeKalb reported more than 800 raw sewage spills in five years.
A federal judge will review the public comments before signing the consent decree. Comments must be received by Jan. 20.
